What is teddy boucle, and why does it feel that way?

Almost everything Soosie makes is available in teddy bouclé: baby nests, Moses baskets, cot bumpers, decorative pillows, playmats, and nursing pillows. It's the fabric everyone raves about when the package is opened. But what exactly is it?

Bouclé is a weaving technique, teddy is the look

Bouclé comes from the French word for "curled". It is a fabric woven from yarn with small loops, which makes the surface uneven and soft instead of smooth. Teddy is the name given to the fabric because it feels like the fur of a teddy bear. Teddy bouclé is therefore not a fiber, but a structure — just as velvet is a weave and not a material.

What is Soosie's teddy made of?

Soosie's teddy bouclé is a polyester fabric. Polyester keeps the loops in shape, does not pill, and can withstand washing — exactly what you want from a fabric that comes into daily contact with a baby. Where the fabric lies directly against the skin, such as on the inside of the Moses basket and with the double-sided baby nests, Soosie uses 100% cotton. The filling is anti-allergenic polyester fiber.

Warm in winter — and in summer?

Teddy is thick and retains heat. From September to March, this is an advantage. In summer, it's better to choose cotton or muslin, or opt for a double-sided model: teddy on one side, cotton on the other, and you can flip it over as the season changes. How to keep teddy looking good

Wash at 30 °C on a delicate cycle, spin at a low speed, and never tumble dry — heat makes the loops stiff and shiny. Let it dry flat.
