“Is a baby nest safe?” is the question we get most often. The honest answer: yes, when you are there. A baby nest is made for moments with a parent supervising — in the cot, in the playpen, on the floor or next to you on the sofa. What is a baby nest?
A baby nest is a soft lying place with a raised edge all around. That edge gives a newborn the enclosed feeling that recalls the womb — the same reason babies settle from swaddling or from a hand on the chest.
Soosie nests measure 90 × 50 cm on the outside and 70 × 30 cm on the inside, with an edge about 10 cm high. The little mattress is removable, so you can wash the cover separately. With the drawstrings at the side you make the nest narrower or wider as your baby grows.
Where do you use it?
The nest is meant for places where you are present or have your baby in view:
- In the cot — the place where the nest works best.
- In the playpen — during tummy time or while awake.
- On the floor — next to you, while you are in the room.
- Next to you on the sofa — with your baby within arm's reach, while you sit beside them.
The rule is short: always use the baby nest with a parent supervising. If the nest is on the sofa, stay sitting beside it — it can slide off there. Do not put it on a table or a changing unit without a rim.
When do you stop?
Not at a certain age, but at a certain moment: as soon as your baby can roll over by themselves. From then on a child can turn against the edge, and the nest has served its purpose.
For most babies that happens somewhere between four and six months, but it varies a lot. Watch what your child can do, not the calendar — the first time you see your baby turn from back to tummy, that is the sign.
What to look for when choosing
Size
The standard is 90 × 50 cm on the outside. There are more compact versions, such as our TEDDY BOUNCE model at 80 × 46 cm — handy if you carry the nest around often or if the crib is small. Almost all models are adjustable with drawstrings, so they grow with your baby for a while.
Fabric

Reversible or not
A reversible nest has teddy on one side and cotton on the other: warm in winter, cooler in summer. You flip it over as the season changes. A full teddy nest is one fabric all round and therefore the warmest.
Set or single
Many models come as a set with a matching cushion. That cushion is meant for decoration and for when your baby lies awake beside you — not to place under the head.

Keeping it clean
All Soosie textiles are machine washable: 30 °C, delicate cycle, low spin speed. Take the mattress out before washing the cover. Do not tumble dry — dry the nest flat and fluff the edge now and then so the filling stays even.

Until your baby rolls over. After that you can store it for a next child — the fabric and filling last for years if you follow the care instructions.
What is the difference with a Moses basket?
